Hocus Pocus

Hands down one of the best movies I have ever seen… change my mind. But seriously, watching Hocus Pocus is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year (Halloween). This year, I celebrated the spooky season by endlessly decorating my apartment and taking my own spin on the infamous house of the Sanderson Sisters. This painting is one of my favorite works to date.

Since I painted two other halloween-themed watercolors, I knew they could all become one project. Hocus Pocus does not have its own book so I thought it would be fun to design one (Disney, you can call me anytime). Below you will find my concept of Hocus Pocus: The Tale of the Sanderson Sisters and two magical spells within.

The title and header font are called Outer Space and will be seen throughout the book to connect back to the cover. This font also extends to the spells so they feel more like a “spell book” within the story. The body font is Chaparral Pro, one of my favorite serif fonts I found a few years back. The design of the font is traditional with a little bit of spice to increase the reader’s interest.

Below are progression images of each painting.
